Open Championship 2022 live updates, highlights from Thursday's Round 1

 All times BST

 pm. Leaderboard update-8 Kin( F),-5 Smith( F), McIlroy( 16),-4 Schauffele( 16), Brown( F), Kitayama( F), Westwood( F), Kennedy( F)

pm. Bad launch for Woods! There was so important expectation ahead of Woods' opening round, but he is started on a double hobgoblin! It's not relatively McIlroy at the first at Portrush, but it's not far out! He got too steep and the drop after ending up in the burn put Woods on the aft bottom.

pm. In the water! That is not what Woods would have wanted at the first! There was a divot in his drive, there was some beach in the air, it went grandly, landed short and ended up in the Swilcan Burn. hollers!

pm. Woods tees off! The three- time Open winner gets the biggest event of the day at the first tee. Fitzpatrick is also a favourite with the crowd at the Old Course. Woods' swing has looked veritably good across the practice days, and he has been rehearsing a lot! Woods constantly talks about how he loves this course. It plays to his strengths!

pm. Poulter was booed at the first tee, presumably due to his controversial involvement in the LIV Golf series. still, the Englishman was spiky when asked about it after he finished his round." I actually allowed

I had a great event on the first tee, to be honest. All I heard was clapping," he said. Whatever you say, Ian.

pm. Westwood holes a birdie at the 18th to finish a veritably respectable opening round on four under. That is a good result given that he recorded a double hobgoblin on the alternate hole! Monorails is still over there on four under, but he has bogeyed the 16th to fall back.

pm. Woods is on the range ahead of his tee time in just under 30 twinkles. You can see that the sect is starting to pick up around the course. Matt Fitzpatrick is also in Woods' group after winning his first major at the US Open not so long agone

. A of expectation of seeing these two play together!

pm. Barclay Brown has been the surprise package of moment's opening round at the Open with the English amateur finishing on a score of four- under to leave him tied-alternate." I did not have it( The Open) on my schedule," he said after getting back to the club. But yeah, good ten days agone

, a couple of weeks agone

." Just as well he changed his schedule!

pm. Young is still the man to beat on his Open debut( he carded an opening round of 64 and is in the club). The 25- time-old has a good track record of starting well- he finished common- third on his PGA Championship debut only last month.

 pm. Leaderboard update-8 Kin( F),-5 Smith( F), Monorails( 13), McIlroy( 12),-4 Brown( F), Kitayama( F), Westwood( 15)

pm. Scottie Scheffler on the tee! The world number one is coming up to start his Old Course crusade. The American is known for being a addict of links golf and has been in excellent form in 2022, winning the Masters in April and finishing runner- up at the US Open. How will he perform this week?

pm. What a round this is turning out to be for Monorails! Of course, the 52- time-old has an excellent record in this competition( he won at Muirfield in 2002 and at Royal Lytham in 2012 as well as 13 top 10 homestretches) and is presently tied in alternate on five under after the 12th. This is getting one of the stories of the day!

pm. It's a par for McIlroy at the 11th, and a par for the other two( Morikawa and Schauffele) in his group as well. The early instigation that the Northern Irishman erected up over the first five holes of his opening round has faded kindly

 .

100 pm. recapitulate! Missed the morning and early autumn action? Not a problem- stop's recap effects! Young is our leader on seven under after 16 holes. McIlroy has enjoyed a good frontline- he is presently third in the leaderboard on four under. unyoking Young and McIlroy on the leaderboard is the Australian, Smith- he is five under and has actually just finished his round. Keep an eye on the stager Ernie Els- he was common-alternate for a hole or two!

1250 pm. McIlroy is not suitable to take advantage of the short par four at the ninth, but that's still an excellent frontline from the Northern Irishman. He can be pleased with how he's playing at the moment.

1245 pm. occasion missed! That was a real chance for our leader, Young, to go-8, but he produces a nervous birdie putt on the 14th. Meanwhile, Smith suffered a analogous fate on the 16th when he'd a look at a birdie- his putt clearly could have been better. He did not read the line, but we all know how delicate these flora are to read!

 1235 pm. Leaderboard update-7 Kin( 13),-4 Brown, Kitayama( 18), Smith( 15), McIlroy( 8)

1225 pm. A delicate 13th for Robert MacIntyre derails his charge as he makes a double hobgoblin six there. It was a analogous story for Tommy Fleetwood who also plodded on the same hole. still, MacIntyre still has a change to make amends. He just needs to get that out of his system.

1215 pm. Three- in-a-row! McIlroy has now bagged birdies in each of the last three holes! He has four in his first seven! Young has enjoyed a blistering launch, but McIlroy is moving up behind him. He made an opening round 63 at the Old Course back in 2010. Can he get close to that again?

1210 pm. Birdies far and wide! There is a lot passing out there at the moment! Ian Poulter has just finished a round of 69 with a birdie at the 18th. Cameron Smith has just pushed himself up the leaderboard with a birdie of his own on the par- four 12th. He is now-7!

1200 pm. Tiger Woods will tee off at2.49 pm. The three- time Open champion has a special affinity with St Andrew's and has been in the city for about a week. He indeed played a round on Saturday evening as the light started to fade over the Old Course. Can he win then for a third time?

am. McIlroy has made a good launch. He knocks it in fluently enough for a alternate birdie at the fifth and he is now-2. Of course, the Northern Irishman is a former Champion Golfer of the Time, but that was eight times agone

and he is noway won at the Old Course ahead. He is on his way! His putter looks good at this early stage.

a.m. noble shot by Young on the 11th, who's now deservedly clear as the leader on five under. The Open debutant lands a birdie to lead by two.

It would be lazy not to give a picture of those Daly trousers we mentioned.

11.15a.m. McIlroy, Morikawa and Schauffele all par the fourth while DeChambeau and Daly give plenitude of entertainment- not least Daly's trousers, which appear to have flowers and craniums on them.

Brown ends one of the stories of the opening morning by registering 68. The 21- time-old from Sheffield first played the Old Course at St Andrews at the age of 10.

11a.m. While Hovland has continued his fine launch, Australian Cameron Smith has also gone to four under, while Poulter has stuttered a little and is now two under.

Two birdies for Koepa mean he's under par, and Bob MacIntyre is two under. McIlroy seems in a jocund mood despite transferring a birdie attempt from distance just suddenly.

a.m. Pail- hatted amateur Barclay Brown continues to have one of the stylish days of his career, remaining a shot behind the leaders.

Min Woo Lee and Kim Joo- hyung presently partake the lead at four under par. Poulter is three under.

a.m. Hotly- sloped 24- time-old Norwegian Viktor Hovland is in a swank group with Shane Lowry, the 2019 Open champion, and reigning US PGA king Justin Thomas.

Hovland leaves his outstanding counterparts in the shade with a birdie, which both Lowry and Thomas fail to pull off.

a.m. McIlroy nearly incontinently provides a highlights contender on the first green, sinking a 55- bottom putt to go one under.

Schauffele leaves a birdie putt comfortably short and misfires with a par save to insure that he is formerly dropped a shot. Morikawa is on par.

a.m. McIlroy is out in a group with Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele, who claimed the Scottish Open title last week.

DeChambeau is hitting form now. The 2020 US Open hit his third consecutive birdie a little before.

a.m. Then comes McIlroy." It's a good position to be in," the 2014 champion tells BBC Sport when he is asked about being the shortest odds." I'd much rather be the favourite than not because it means that you are playing good golf.

" My performances in the majors this time and have been so much better than they've in the last many times. That gives me so important stimulant, going forward."

a.m. Four players are setting the pace on three under following Poulter's piledriver eagle putt on the ninth, with Triangle hitting three birdies in his first three holes. Wu and Kim Joo- hyung join them.

9.30a.m. Ian Poulter takes a share of the lead! The Englishman was reportedly booed as he teed off because of his involvement in LIV Golf, and he is answered his critics in emotional style with a huge shot, piercing from distance on the par- four ninth.

That means Poulter is three under alongside Tringale and American Brandon Wu, who's taking part in his alternate Open.

a.m. Former US Open champion Simpson made the first birdie but the American has just ended up in the rough, ending up with a hobgoblin after replying admirably to chip himself out of a hopeless position.

Tommy Fleetwood is out on the course and attracting plenitude of attention. He is in Hoshino's group with his Ryder Ryder Cup mate Francesco Molinari, the 2018 champion. All three have started with three successive pars.

9a.m. The early leaders are each two under at the moment Webb Simpson, Lucas Herbert and Cameron Tringale are the bellwethers so far.

Californian Tringale is continuing the excellent form that saw him set a course record 61 at the Scottish Open last week. A word, too, for Barclay Brown, an amateur who's a shot before.

a.m.; Brooks Koepka teed off at8.03a.m., and he is not made the stylish of thresholds — the world number 20 has missed the alternate fairway, landing a shot in a backcountry.

Organisers have verified that Rikuya Hoshino, of Japan, will replace the injured Rose, who was the runner- up in 2018.

a.m. Scotland's Paul Lawrie hit the first shot at6.35a.m. moment, and we have seen Justin Rose pull out at the last nanosecond with a back injury.

Bryson DeChambeau also missed a birdie putt a many moments agone

, transferring a shot hardly wide after a tremendous shot to reach the green.

8a.m. Hello and drink to The Sporting News' content of the 150th Open! We will have all the rearmost action for you ahead of the launch of play as the likes of favourite Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods begin their juggernauts
