" I had left commodity then, 23 times back and God has brought me back to this state and has it's such a godly coexistence to come back toM. Chinnaswamy Stadium and play the final," Pandit said.
Madhya Pradesh created history on Sunday when they settled the Ranji jewel, defeating Mumbai in Bengaluru by 6 lattices. The man behind their success, trainer Chandrakant Pandit, must have also felt a cascading sense of relief marshland through him. As gashes started rolling down his face, he folded his hands as a mark of respect towards the Mumbai dressing room after the palm.
In the 1999 Ranji Final, Pandit, playing for Madhya Pradesh had been beaten by Karnataka in the final. It was his last professional game and he'd lost it.
" 23 times back, I've always felt that I had left commodity back over then so winning this jewel in this same ground was fabulous, ” Pandit said in an interview toBCCI.tv.
" Missing out on this jewel when I was captain and to win this jewel( moment) on the same ground( is indeed special. Some say father couldn't do it but son has done it so Aditya Shrivastava has done this extensively, ” he added.
With his rearmost triumph, Pandit has come the most decorated trainer in the competition’s history with an unknown six Ranji jewel titles.
So what makes him take up an assignment as a trainer. “ I suppose I always look for a grueling job where there are a lot of youths in the platoon. And presumably the fact that I want to develop a cricketing culture in that particular state, ” Pandit said.
On choosing Madhya Pradesh, he said, ” I formerly knew the culture, having spent close to 6 times then when I was playing. So, when the offer came in March, I didn't vacillate to accept the offer. I had left commodity then, 23 times back and God has brought me back to this state and has it’s such a godly coexistence to come back toM. Chinnaswamy Stadium and play the final. ”
Talking about the challenges of handling a youthful side, Pandit said, ” occasionally you feel there are a lot of gift there and they just need to develop the culture. Whatever the game demands, I tried to inculcate in them. ”
The expert trainer was all praise for MP captain Aditya Shrivastava who he nominated as an “ astounding commander ”. He also singled out Rajat Patidar, Shubham Sharma and Akshat Raghuwanshi for high praise.
